Horses need therapy too! Many of our horses have been starved or abused. Many have physical problems such as lameness, sores, or sore muscles. Some come with emotional baggage.
We have many horses on special feeding regimens. In consultation with the veterinarian and those experienced in caring for special needs horses, a dietary program is set up for each horse.
We have people trained in equine massage and equine chiropractic is offered by an equine professional. Farriers and veterinarians determine treatment for lameness and hoof problems.
Some horses need to learn to trust again. Many have to learn to be ridden. Some have to learn all the basics: accepting a halter; being groomed; standing for the farrier; loading into a trailer. Those horses that are physically able are taught to be ridden, either by going to a professional trainer or being handled by experienced riders who volunteer their time.
We need funds donated to send horses to professional trainers and experienced riders who can reinforce what the horse has learned so that the horse may be adopted or used in our therapy program.
