What Do Volunteers Do:
Horses: need grooming and love and attention. Some people just want to brush and pet the horses. Horses need attention and if you can spend time with them, they would love to spend time with you. But, you must be trained to work with the horses. Kids must go through Riding Club training. Adults must have experience or be taught. No one should be working around the horses without a TaPs instructor or director on the premises.
Cleaning: tack and stalls need attention. So do the arenas and pastures. We don't routinely put our horses in stalls (how would you like to spend most of your time in your bedroom?), so there's not much stall cleaning to do. But the barn and tack need attention. And, manure needs to be removed from paddocks, pastures and the yard.
Side walkers: working with our younger children while they are riding or around the horses. Sessions are March, April, May and September, October, November.
Maintenance: painting, fixing, building - all a part of what we do. These are often good Eagle Scout projects too.
PR: Can you write newspaper articles? Put a bumper sticker on your car? Sit at a table at horse shows?
Fund Raising: We have an annual golf tournament in May. That takes LOTS of work. We also need help with our annual garage sale. Helping find and write grants.
Grant writing: we work on grants during the winter and summer months. If you have any ideas, suggestions, experience, we would love your help.
Youth Volunteers: Youth volunteers must be mature 13 years or older. Younger volunteers may be considered, but their parents must be present. We love the younger kids but cannot be responsible to watch them when we are working, so parents must accompany them when they are here unless they are attending a class.
Please go to our Forms page to fill out the proper forms and bring them with you when you visit TaPs
When Can I come out: all volunteers and club participants should be respectful of the privacy of TaPs since it is on private residence property. There are also safety issues. Only come if you are a scheduled volunteer or if you have called/texted Karen Bander. Parents: please do not leave your child at the barn if it is not a class day and YOU have not consulted with a TaPs coach. Sometimes parents leave their children and we are not available to be with them. If they are scheduled to volunteer, check with an adult as to what time you need to pick up your child. This is a safety issue.
